Carefully restored world map created in 1587 shows unicorns and other mythical creatures

The map is fascinating, partly because of it’s perspective – the view of the planet from the North Pole looking down, and partly because of it’s amazing detail and artistry. And just in case you’re curious, unicorns are apparently to be found in northern Siberia according to this map.

Highland Folk Museum is unraveling the mystery of this 300-year-old unicorn chair

This chair was immersed in the sea for some time, but somehow made it back onto dry land to be rescued. The history and origin of the chair are unknown, but the Highland Folk Museum at Newtonmore is working hard to unravel the mystery.

Ice Adventure, located on George Street, is featuring a stunning assortment of ice sculptures that tell the story of the history of Scotland. The exhibit is open through Christmas. Be sure to bring a coat, as the venue is kept at -10ºC to keep the exhibit from melting!

France’s famous The Lady and the Unicorn tapestries to visit Australia in 2018.

The Lady and the Unicorn tapestry exhibit will open in February 2018 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. This is only the fourth time that the tapestries have left France, so it’s a rare opportunity to view the tapestries without having to travel to the Musee de Cluny in Paris.

The Mystic Hunt of the Unicorn Tapestry at Stirling Castle, Scotland

As part of a project to restore the interiors of Stirling Castle in 2001, Historic Scotland was commissioned to recreate a set of tapestries depicting “the historie of the unicorne.”

Despite having very little to go by, a team of 18 weavers from across the globe were enlisted to stitch the seven tapestries required to complete the project entitled “The Mystic Hunt Of The Unicorn.”

The final tapestry was finished in 2015.
